The Opportunity Are you an individual that enjoys being hands on and at your best in a fast-paced environment? Merit Foods is looking for a motivated, self-starter Production Technician who wants to learn to join our team. This role is responsible for the operation of our production line and ensuring that our products meet our food quality standards and product specification. We will provide you with all of the training you need! What you'll do Safe and efficient operation of manual and automated equipment to include; various pumps, computer-based control systems, centrifuges and decanters. Perform equipment change-overs, CIP, clean-up operations and equipment set-up. Collect routine product samples and perform routine integrity tests to ensure that product meets quality specifications. Assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting. Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated and routinely inspected to ensure effective operation to meet required output. Complete quality checks, startup checklists and paperwork during shift to maintain production and quality. Follow all required work safe practices. Includes wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc. Operate, read, and maintain all quality control and food safety devices and procedures. Adhere to all company and plant polices related to GMP’s, Safety, work rules and standard operating procedures (SOP). Work together professionally in a team environment with coworkers and other department personnel. Your Experience and Skills High school diploma or equivalent Degree or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automation is an asset Minimum 2 years working in a production capacity such as food or dairy manufacturing, agriculture with automation is required. Strong technical skills, ability to operate and understand equipment controls, touch panels and mechanical operations. A working understanding of food manufacturing acronyms (SQF, QA/QC, HACCP, SOP,5S, GMP, etc.). Ability to read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Computer skills - working proficiency in computerized environment; use of PC, HMI systems plus Word, Outlook, and Excel an asset Mid-level to Intermediate level mathematical skills. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to work and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent changes. Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to use basic power tools required. A valid driver’s license Physical Demands Regularly required to walk and stand for extended periods of time, bend, twist, climb stairs and maneuver around manufacturing equipment consistently throughout the shift. Exposed to changing noise levels and changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, and humid) Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather. Required to climb heights ranging from 20 to 60ft and lift/or move up to 50lbs on a routine basis.
