The role of the People Operations & Human Resources Manager is to lead company-wide efforts - across the US and Canada - to drive employee success, satisfaction and productivity. This person will be expected to take advantage of industry best practices, technologies, and other resources to build processes that support company growth. They will also lead development of new processes for hiring, recruiting and workplace policies, in collaboration with the Chief of Staff, CEO, company leadership, and the Operations, Finance and Engineering teams. CORE HR RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain, update and implement company-wide policies and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, including: Handbook / Code of Conduct, Health & Safety, Expense, Remote Work, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Coordinate hiring, onboarding and off-boarding of all employees and contractors Coordinate policies and tracking of time/attendance, PTO and other leaves, etc. Administer payroll and benefits, in coordination with Finance department Maintain employee records, including all employment and legal documentation CULTURE, PRODUCTIVITY & STRATEGY RESPONSIBILITIES Act as primary point of contact for listening, feedback, and HR issues Manage and administer regular employee feedback surveys, pulse checks, and measurement of other People Operations and DEI&A metrics Collaborate with Chief of Staff to establish norms for internal communications Proactively assess and develop initiatives to drive employee engagement & wellbeing Proactively assess needs that arise based on company growth and external factors (eg., scale-up, public health issues, regulatory changes) Proactively identify, suggest and implement best practice technology and other enablers of People Operations success Collaborate with Chief of Staff and leadership in a variety of company-wide programs, including: workforce planning, organizational structure, consultant/contractor strategy, compensation strategy, and project management TALENT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate company-wide recruiting efforts and selectively participate in interviews Coordinate Performance Evaluations procedures and coach supervisors on the process (360-degree reviews) Develop and coordinate on-the-job training opportunities and other career benefits QUALIFICATIONS 4-8 years of experience in HR and/or People Operations functions at small or mid-sized companies Experience managing company payroll, benefits and relevant providers Experience leading hiring processes and managing applicant tracking systems (eg., Lever) Experience interfacing directly with Finance department Experience supporting or leading initiatives related to workplace culture and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility or similar Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in human resources, business, communications, psychology, or other relevant field Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace tools Curiosity and a willingness to try new things Hands-on builder Comfortable with change and ambiguity Strategic, tactical and decisive mindset Able to work with others effectively while also maintaining a high degree of independence Effective communicator with honesty, integrity, and transparency Detail-oriented, resourceful, and efficient self-starter Dedicated learner with critical-thinking, problem-solving, and teaching skills Able to contribute to a culture of enthusiasm, professionalism, and teamwork Proficient at communicating in English Located in Halifax, NS area or willing to relocate in the near future JOB DETAILS Department: People Operations/Human Resources Reports to: VP of Operations/Chief of Staff Compensation (full-time): Annual salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 CAD (on experience) Benefits (full-time): Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage Vacation (full-time): Flexible PTO, pending approval and performance (min of 10 days/year); we also recognize 12 paid holidays per year Salient Energy is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, can contribute fully and have equal opportunities.
