CAMH Education and the Professional Practice Office are currently seeking a full-time, permanent Nurse Educator to support the CAMH Simulation Centre. Reporting to the Manager, Simulation & Digital Innovation in CAMH Education and working closely with the Manager, Interprofessional Practice & Education in the Professional Practice Office, the Nurse Educator, Simulation Centre will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of simulation-based education sessions for nurses and interprofessional learners at CAMH. The Nurse Educator, Simulation Centre will be dedicated to developing and delivering simulation-based education for point-of-care staff, including nurses, physicians, interprofessional learners, faculty, educators, and advance practice clinicians. Through needs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and research, the successful candidate will exemplify core competencies as an educator, consultant, practice champion and leader. The successful candidate will contribute to a high-performing interprofessional team and be responsible for advancing professional practice across diverse clinical education areas, including, psychiatric and medical emergency response, mock code blue and white training, and simulation-based training for all CAMH nurses (eg. physical health skills assessment, automatic dispensing unit, and CPR training). The Nurse Educator, Simulation Centre will collaborate with educators and clinicians across the hospital to identify faculty learning needs and design and deliver sessions to build capacity in CAMH clinicians to enhance teaching practices, that are in line with adult education principles and best practices in learner engagement. The successful candidate will support the trauma-informed de-escalation for safety and self-protection (TIDES) team by designing effective simulations for all staff as well as tailored, in-situ simulations for clinical units and teams. The Nurse Educator, Simulation Centre will bring knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning for clinical staff and education development and delivery. They will support clinical staff in the implementation of simulation-based education initiatives that focus on quality improvement, patient safety, implementation of clinical policies & procedures, and orientation of new clinical staff. The role will require collaboration with stakeholders across the hospital, including unit managers, advance practice clinicians, nurse educators, interprofessional clinical teams, project management, People & Experience, and alignment with CAMH Simulation Centre research, evaluation and other academic priorities. This position will be based at 1025 Queen Street West. Qualifications The successful candidate must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and must possess a current BCLS (CPR) certificate. Five (5) years of experience within the mental health field is essential. Specific experience with clients with severe mental health and addiction issues and/or forensic histories is considered an asset. A BN/BScN degree and computer literacy are also required. MN/MScN or other relevant Master’s degree is preferred. CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing would be considered an asset. The incumbent will have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in challenging clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour, as well as effective decision-making and problem solving skills. Certification as a BCLS (CPR) trainer is preferred. Previous clinical teaching experience is essential. Demonstrated knowledge of simulation-based education, adult learning theories, instructional design models, curriculum development, and current and emerging learning technologies is required. The successful candidate will be highly organized, and possess excellent communication skills to facilitate working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. The role will foster and create a safe and inclusive learning environment that motivates and challenges learners and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively in a team setting is required. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to and manage changing priorities is required. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
