A Heavy Duty Mechanic in the Transit Fleet Department plays an integral role in the effective & efficient delivery of transit services to the residents of Regina. This is a fast-paced environment where safety of employees, operators and citizens are of the utmost importance. Work in the Transit Fleet garage involves maintenance and overhaul of bus engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspensions, steering, air conditioning and all auxiliary equipment, including electrical components. Due to the high degree of impact Transit Fleet operation has on the delivery of transit services, this shop operates a 7-day per week shift. Our hard working & valued employees are guaranteed to have two consecutive weekends off, which helps to maintain a healthy and positive work/life balance. The successful candidate will have: Journeyperson's Certificate in the Truck & Transport Trade or Heavy Duty Mechanic Trade or Agriculture Machinery Technician certificate two (2) years trade experience class 1A driver's license (or ability to obtain) a standard set of hand tools Additionally, our ideal candidate will be one who enjoys multi-tasking, is results-oriented and is committed to safe work practices. They will have the ability to work independently while demonstrating sound judgement, decision-making and accountability. Special Note for Apprentices If we are unable to secure a qualified Journeyperson, the City may consider Apprentices at the 2nd, 3rd & 4th level. The City of Regina Apprentice Program offers tuition reimbursement & a paid leave of absence of 95% of salary to attend each level of trade school.
