In the spirit of reconciliation, Hong Fook Mental Health Association acknowledges the privilege to work and learn on the ancestral and traditional territories of many Indigenous nations including those covered by Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties, specifically the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Hong Fook means “Health and Felicity (Prosperity)” in Chinese. Established in 1982, Hong Fook Mental Health Associationis the leading ethno-cultural community mental health agency with a consolidated culturally competent team serving Asian communities in the Greater Toronto Area. Hong Fook provides a continuum of mental health services covering the spectrum from “promoting wellness” to “managing illness” in Cambodian, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Korean, Vietnamese and English. Hong Fook Mental Health Association and the HF Connecting Health Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic aims to champion culturally competent mental and primary health care. It is within this context that we invite nominations and applications for the role of Executive Director,a position that will have an indelible impact on the future of the Hong Fook family of organizations. The Executive Director will be responsible for: the strategic oversight, quality service delivery and overall management of the association’s mental health programming, and the HF Connecting Health Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic; overseeing all operational, human resources, financial matters at the Association and Clinic; playing a leadership role in the continued evolution, growth, and innovation of all Hong Fook entities – the Association, the Clinic and our fundraising arm, the Foundation. The Executive Director will serve as the direct link between the association’s operations and the respective Board of Directors. Additionally, the Executive Director will represent Hong Fook as a collaborative partner with affiliated organizations on their collective mission and strengthen existing relations with the community, the local health networks such as Scarborough Health Network, health/social service delivery partners as well as funders and donors. Finally, the Executive Director will also support and advocate for clients and community, working with a number of entities and partners, on matters that relate to funding, public policy, and strategic visioning for the future. Qualifications Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. The incoming leader must have a genuine passion and unwavering dedication to creating enabling conditions for individuals who are living with and/or impacted by mental health challenges to survive and thrive. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the Hong Fook Mental Health Association environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role: 1) Leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector, and particularly experience in the mental, social services, public or primary health sector, in particular, Ontario experience is preferred. 2) Knowledge of health services design, operations, and evaluation, capital projects, human resources, finance, and risk management, as well as additional skills required for senior leadership. 3) Strategic perspective and long-term vision to steer organization in consideration of relevant strategic opportunities and risks, and in partnership with funders, external agencies, and stakeholders such as the Academic community, Ontario health teams, and other partners, funders, and donors. 4) Embrace diversity, equity and cultural competency, and an understanding of the challenges faced by equity deserving communities among the populations we serve. 5) Fluency in English (spoken & written), and proficiency in any one of Hong Fook’s service languages (Cambodian, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin or Vietnamese) is preferred. 6) Communicate, liaise and work effectively with the affiliated Boards to achieve mission, vision and strategic priorities. 7) A master degree in health, social work or administrative fields is preferred with minimum 5 to 7 years of leadership experiences; membership with a regulated professional bodies or colleges will also be preferred How to Apply Hong Fook Mental Health Association is a strong advocate for diversity in all its forms contributing to the further diversification of ideas, and particularly encourages applications from Indigenous and racialized communities, women, persons with disabilities, the 2SLGTBQIA+ community, and those of diverse intersectional identities.
