Position Overview Reporting directly to the President, the Director, Safety will be responsible to coordinate and manage all areas of health, safety, and compliance across all divisions within Ontario. Ensure implementation of health, safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures that adhere to corporate specifications to sustain and support a culture of safety, reducing incidents, and maintain operational productivity. Primary Responsibilities Strategic Work in partnership with leaders and Transdev Canada to promote a safety culture Develop health and safety goals for the company ensuring they meet all fiscal, strategic, and legislative requirements Develops annual operating, planning and corporate governance processes, including audits, compliance initiatives, government reporting, and identification of best practice initiatives Establishes key metrics in conjunction with Transdev Canada for a specific segment of the business that drive the effectiveness of the HSE program across the company Oversee the JHSC’s activities at the various divisions to ensure their continued effectiveness in the overall safety program Communication Continual communication of health and safety information to all levels within the company through memos, bulletins, meetings, tailgate talks, e-mail correspondence, social media etc. Be apprised of all legislation changes as it related to the department, making system changes and/or communicating them to the appropriate persons as needed to maintain compliance Acts as an ambassador of VTS on and off company property Helps increase VTS’s visibility within the community by participating in company sponsored events Compliance & Audit Ensures compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety regulations (OHSA, AODA, MTO, MOH, ESA, HRC) Develops and implements policies and processes as a result of changing legislation or identified trends In partnership with Operations, conduct regular audits for all divisions throughout the year to ensure they are compliant with regulatory and corporate requirements Incident & Collision & WSIB Accountable to ensure that all collisions and incidents follow proper procedure within each division/location and documentation is accurate, complete and remitted to authorities as needed Ensures incident and collision reporting is complete and reported in a timely fashion; establishes appropriate follow-up Accountable for and oversee that H&S participates in workplace injury management, including development of return-to-work plans and appeals Overall accountability to ensure team oversee claims from start to completion; liaison with WSIB case manager to ensure all paperwork and employee updates are completed and submitted on a timely basis Ensure WSIB statements and monthly Accident Cost Statements are analyzed, and regular feedback is provided to divisional managers Leadership & Training Serve as internal subject matter expert and resource on all areas of safety and compliance, including regulation and best-practices Set the direction for the entire department, providing guidance and mentorship to the team, and taking responsibility for overall performance Continually assessing the safety knowledge within the various levels of the company, and making recommendations for training to address those gaps Develop, host and/or coordinate training sessions in various topics as needed Requirements Knowledge & Skill Requirements Completion of University or College education Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent JHSC Certification Level 2 CRSP designation preferred Field expertise Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Transportation industry Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft O365 In-depth knowledge of current legislation relating to Health & Safety Clean Drivers Abstract Clean Criminal Record Search Must be able to upgrade to a commercial driver’s license Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings & training Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including travel throughout Ontario on a regular basis Monitor the safe operation of over 1,500 units in transit Oversee operations at all locations across the province of Ontario Manage a team of Health & Safety employees (including all transportation course trainers) Analyze training to employees to reduce the risk of accidents and claims Ensure compliance of practices with the laws of the transportation field Organize the start-up of the new locations by ensuring that maintenance, logistics and operations activities are staged Ensure activities of the maintenance department are compliant with current laws and regulations Act as representative in proposing solutions to reduce accident costs Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Transportation industry Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft O365 In-depth knowledge of current legislation relating to Health & Safety Clean Drivers Abstract Clean Criminal Record Search Must be able to upgrade to a commercial driver’s licence Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings & training Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including travel throughout Ontario on a regular basis Benefits Why work for us?
